Kalamunda Volunteer Fire and Rescue Service (VFRS) protects one of the most complex and high-risk residential and light industrial districts in metropolitan Perth.
The brigade responds to house fires, bushfires, all vehicle accidents and industrial incidents across a rapidly growing Hills community. The district is experiencing increasing residential infill, multi storey developments, expanding industrial activity, electric vehicles and home battery systems.
Despite these rising risks, the Cook Labor Government has confirmed that Kalamunda’s current Type 1 Urban Pump will be replaced with a lower capability Type 2 appliance.
Kalamunda VFRS believe that this decision represents a downgrade in frontline capability.
Volunteer firefighters in Kalamunda perform the same structural firefighting role as paid metropolitan brigades. They attend the same types of incidents. They protect the same lives and homes. The residents of Kalamunda deserve the same level of equipment.
We call on the Cook Labor Government and the Minister for Emergency Services to reverse this decision and commit to replacing Kalamunda’s current appliance with a full capability Type 1 Urban Pump.
Our volunteers deserve proper equipment.
Our community deserves proper protection.
For decades, Kalamunda has been served by a team of amazing local volunteer firefighters and a Type 1 Fire Truck.
But now they are being downgraded to a Type 2 Fire Truck. Our community deserves better.
